About the Collage Series

My process is very intuitive. I start by painting the entire paper a wet- into-wet mixture of colors and then I focus on placing various-sized shapes on the page, creating a composition that is both balanced and interesting. All along the way, I focus on what feels right to do next. If nothing comes to me, I leave the painting for awhile…sometimes up to a month before I come back to it. There IS a point, about half-way through, where some critical analysis takes place, and some treasures have to be sacrificed for the good of the composition as a whole. But, for the most part, my brush doesn’t touch the canvas unless there is that inspired impulse to make a stroke.
