The main question, or problem, that accompanies me when I create is the question of true identity. Who am I really? And how can I express that most genuinely and to the fullest? Ever since I was fifteen years old, I have been trying to reconcile the inequities of the finite world with the vast openness of what is not of this world. I have examined many aspects of personality and asked which is the most real. Time and again the only ME that I find to be real is that which is more primal than anything in our history, and more ancient than words or symbols can express. The unspoken answer to the questions above is often related to our connectivity, not only to our friends, family and humans in general, but also to nature and to the cosmos. My compositions incorporate line, color, splatters, and finely painted layers, in organic formations that take on the feel of ancient geology. Incorporating these formations gives credence to a mystery that we have yet to unravel. Patterns found in nature are also found in mystical traditions, and in ancient and modern cultures alike. What is the connection? I think that these patterns hold a formula that could help us make better sense of the world. 142 Throckmorton Theatre 142 Throckmorton Avenue Mill Valley, California June 1-30, 2010 Daily Sketch Installation Elixir 108 Main Street, Tiburon, California Through June 2010 |
